A mother, her 11-year-old son and her 12-year-old daughter were on life support Tuesday after they were pulled unconscious from a motel pool on Hollywood Boulevard, authorities said.
The mother, 36, had jumped into the pool fully-clothed upon realizing her children had wandered into the deep end, authorities said. She had limited swimming ability and police believe it was an accident, though the incident is still under investigation, said Jane Kim, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department.
A nearby resident who was walking by intervened after he heard two of the family’s other children screaming. He leaped over the fence, pulled all three people from the water and began to perform CPR. He has not been identified.
The aging Hollywood Premiere motel is a two-story building near the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Western Avenue. The pool is fenced off and measures 7 1/2 feet at its deepest point. A sign on a wall reads “No lifeguard.”
The identity of the family is not being released, authorities said.
