Fire near Magic Mountain pushes north, containment at 25%
More than 200 firefighters and half a dozen aircraft were battling a fast-spreading fire near Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia on Tuesday afternoon.
The fire started west of the amusement park before 11:30 a.m. and by 1 p.m. had burned 35 acres and was 25% contained.
“We’ve done really quick work today,” Los Angeles County fire inspector Scott Miller said.
Officials triggered a three-alarm call for the blaze, which pulled in 228 firefighters, three helicopters and four fixed-wing planes to douse the flames before it got out of control. Wind gusts up to 50 mph were pushing the flames north toward the 5 Freeway, authorities said.
The California Highway Patrol said the blaze did not affect traffic in the area and a Magic Mountain spokeswoman said the park remained open.
Crews were set up to the south of the blaze to protect homes in Stevenson Ranch in case the winds shifted, officials said.
