The L.A. County coroner identified Tuesday a man who was fatally shot in Boyle Heights by a suspect who was later killed by LAPD officers.

Jequan Foley, 26, of Los Angeles was shot multiple times around 10:25 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of 4th and Soto streets.

Foley was pronounced dead at the scene by fire paramedics.

Los Angeles Police Sgt. Barry Montgomery said Hollenbeck station officers were patrolling the area when they heard gunshots and saw a man fall in the middle of 4th Street.

He said the officers called for backup saying they were at the scene of a possible shooting and that they saw a man running east from the intersection.

A police helicopter spotted the man they believed to be the gunman and directed officers to 3rd and Mathews streets.

LAPD has since identified the alleged gunman as Alberto Rodriguez, 39.

“As the officers approached Rodriguez, he began shooting at them, resulting in an officer-involved shooting,” an LAPD statement read in part.

Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured.

The shootings remain under investigation.
