Morgan fire near Mt. Diablo is now 90% contained
Fire crews battling the Morgan fire in Northern California continued to demobilize Thursday as containment increased to 90%.
Still, more than 1,000 firefighters in Mt. Diablo State Park continued to clean up inside the containment lines and “are still in the communities so residents need to be aware and use caution when driving in the fire area,” according to an update from Cal Fire.
The fire was first reported Sunday afternoon and spread rapidly because of dry conditions and steep terrain, which made access difficult for fire crews.
“It’s hard to keep a fire under control when it’s bone-dry because the slightest little wind is going to spread the fire,” Tina Rose, a spokeswoman for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said.
So far, the blaze has scorched 3,133 acres. Officials hope to have it fully contained Friday. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
