A man who was holed up in a Northridge home after allegedly shooting his girlfriend to death has been taken into custody, police said Friday.

Police rushed to the neighborhood near Kenya Street and Baton Rouge Avenue just south of the 118 Freeway about 12:30 a.m. after residents reported a stabbing and a shooting.

When police arrived, they found a woman shot dead in front of a home across the street from the suspect’s house in the 19200 block of Kenya Street, said Sgt. Jeff Stahl of the Los Angeles Police Department.

“I don’t know if he chased her across the street or what,” he said.

Police connected the woman’s death with her boyfriend and called him on the phone, Stahl said. He refused to come out and the SWAT team was called in to help.

The man surrendered about 5:15 a.m. and was taken to a local hospital to treat a self-inflicted wound to the face, police said.

“He allegedly killed somebody so he’s going to have to deal with that,” Stahl said.

The identity of the victim was not immediately available.
