NYFD fire truck that responded to 9/11 attack debuts in Costa Mesa
A fire truck used to respond to the World Trade Center attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, will be on display Friday at the First Fridays Road Show at the Costa Mesa Civic Center.
After being decommissioned by the New York City Fire Department in 2011, the fire truck, known as Rescue 5, has been touring the country as a mobile museum, the Daily Pilot reported. It also serves as a memorial to the 11 city firefighters assigned to the rig who lost their lives on 9/11.
The Remembrance Rescue Project, the nonprofit group that operates the truck, is dedicated to keeping alive “the memories alive of those lost on Sept. 11 and all firefighters killed in the line of duty every year,” according to a news release.
The city of Costa Mesa hosts the free First Fridays Road Show, which features classics and exotic cars, each month at the Civic Center.
The Costa Mesa Fire Assn. will also be hosting a barbecue during Friday’s event.
