Plane crashes during air show at Travis Air Force Base

A small plane performing in an air show at Travis Air Force Base in Northern California crashed Sunday while performing a maneuver close to the ground, canceling the air show, officials said.

“While performing an acrobatic aerial maneuver, a civilian performer’s aircraft crashed at approximately 2:05 p.m.,” according to a statement from the public affairs office at the base. “The air show was officially canceled and the incident is under investigation.”

The crash occurred on the tarmac and away from spectators during the Thunder Over Solano air show, officials said. The aircraft was engulfed in flames.

A spokesman had no information on the identity or conditon of the pilot. Emergency personnel remain at the scene.
