Severed bear paw at recycling center prompts police response

Share

Employees sorting through trash at a San Bernardino recycling center called police Tuesday after they found what they believed was a decomposing human foot. Turns out, it was a severed bear paw.

Homicide detectives quickly arrived at the scene, along with investigators from the coroner’s office. But after consulting with an anthropologist, the investigators decided it was actually a bear’s paw.

“How or why it was discarded in a recyling container, I have no idea,” said San Bernardino police Lt. Mike Madden.

He could not immediately confirm which recycling center the paw was discovered at.
