Santa Ana winds, fire danger advisory in effect through Tuesday

A wind advisory is in effect for the mountains of Los Angeles County until noon Tuesday with gusts potentially reaching 50 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service.
Strong Santa Ana winds are expected to create dangerous fire conditions throughout Southern California, weather officials said.
A red flag warning was issued through 6 p.m. Tuesday, said Bonnie Bartling, a meteorologist with the weather service in Oxnard.
“Because the humidities are going to be down quite a bit and we’re going to have offshores, we are always concerned about fire potential,” she said.
The risk of fire will be elevated through Wednesday, according to the weather service.
The winds will hit the mountains first and then make their way into the valleys. In the Santa Monica Mountains recreational area, gusts beginning at 10 p.m. Monday until noon Tuesday were expected to reach 45 mph.
Bartling said temperatures in the region are expected to be a little higher than normal through Thursday before cooling down again.
