A man in his early 50s was shot while attending a barbecue in a Compton park Saturday night, sheriff’s officials said.
The victim, who was shot in the torso, was taken to a hospital for surgery and was listed in stable condition, said Sgt. Eric Johnson of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The man was shot at about 6:35 p.m. when a car pulled up to the barbecue in Wilson Park and at least one occupant fired into the crowd, Johnson said.
When deputies arrived at the park at North Alameda Street and East Compton Boulevard, the suspects had already fled, he said.
