Man dies while surfing off coast of San Diego; cause unknown

Reporting from San Diego — A man in his 60s died Wednesday morning while surfing off the coast in the La Jolla-Pacific Beach area, according to the San Diego Fire & Rescue Department.
The man and a companion had gone surfing about 7 a.m., and about 15 minutes later, he was reported to be unconscious on the beach.
Paramedics and lifeguards responded but were unable to revive him.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner identified the man as Stephen Fujii, 67, who lived in the Clairemont neighborhood of San Diego. No cause of death has been determined.
