Juvenile arrested in deadly shooting near Banning High School

A person was arrested Wednesday in connection with a shooting near Banning High School that left one teen dead and two others injured, police said.

The suspect was described as a juvenile, but other details of the arrest were not available, said Officer Tony Im, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department.

The shooting was reported about 3:15 p.m. Tuesday in the 1500 block of Lakme Avenue in Wilmington near Banning High School, according to LAPD Officer Sal Ramirez.

A gunman got out of a gray vehicle and fired multiple rounds at the teenagers, police said. He was last seen running west on Pacific Coast Highway toward Avalon Boulevard, Ramirez said.

The teens were taken to area hospitals, where one later died.

It’s unclear what motivated the shooting and whether the victims were connected to the school.

Los Angeles Unified School District officials said they had no comment about the shooting.
