‘Tip jar bandit’ suspect arrested in Beverly Hills

Share

Beverly Hills police say they’ve arrested a woman who looted a tip jar Thursday -- and possibly stole from five other cafes and restaurants around the Westside -- earning the nickname the “tip jar bandit.”

Just before 4:40 p.m., police were alerted to a theft at the Brighton Coffee Shop in the 9600 block of Brighton Way, said Lt. Lincoln Hoshino of the Beverly Hills Police Department.

The suspected thief fled the cafe, but a witness trailed her, Hoshino said.

Within 60 seconds, police arrived. About half a block from the cafe, officers arrested 20-year-old Jessica Shub on suspicion of commercial burglary.

Shub, a Beverly Hills resident, is being held on $20,000 bail.

Police believe she carried out two similar tip jar burglaries in Beverly Hills and three others in Los Angeles.

The LAPD could not immediately confirm that Shub is the suspect in the Westwood and Sawtelle incidents from last month.

An arraignment for Shub has not yet been scheduled.
