Man dies after being struck by SUV during fight in Anaheim parking lot

Anaheim homicide detectives are investigating the death of a 26-year-old strip club employee who was struck by an SUV early Thursday during a fight between two groups of men in the parking lot of a Del Taco restaurant.

Davoriol Wright, of Anaheim, died at a hospital several hours after the 3:20 a.m. incident near La Palma Avenue and Magnolia Street, said Lt. Bob Dunn, a department spokesman.

Wright was walking with two co-workers from the club when they exchanged words with three men in a Toyota Highlander near the Del Taco drive-through lane, Dunn said. The argument escalated into a physical confrontation between the two groups, he said.

“The driver of the vehicle sped away, at which time he ran over the victim,” Dunn said.

Police have interviewed the driver and two passengers of the vehicle, which has been impounded as evidence, Dunn said. No arrests have been made and it is not clear what prompted the fight.

“That is something that we are still trying to piece together,” he said. “We have no indication that there was any prior incident that led to this confrontation; there was nothing in the club that spilled over.”
