L.A. County sheriff’s deputy struck by car is rushed to hospital

A Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy has been struck by a car during a shooting incident, authorities said.

The deputy was rushed to the hospital. A source familiar with the investigation said the deputy was conscious and alert en route to the hospital.

Authorities said the deputy was hit by the car about 2:45 p.m. Friday during a deputy-involved shooting in the 11400 block of South Vermont Avenue in Athens.

Capt. Mike Parker said the information is preliminary, and it was not immediately clear whether the car that struck the deputy was related to the shooting. Parker said he did not yet know whether the deputy was intentionally struck. Parker said a man believed to be struck by gunfire was being treated for injuries.
