Thousands of meals, Easter baskets and shoes will be handed out on Good Friday at the Los Angeles Mission on skid row.

A special Easter dinner will be served starting at 11 a.m. at the L.A. Mission, at 5th and Wall streets.

Celebrities, local leaders and other volunteers will help serve about 3,500 meals, KTLA-TV reported.

More than 1,000 hand-packed Easter baskets will be handed out to kids, and adults will receive hygiene kits.

Foot washing, which has spiritual and practical significance, will be provided by the Los Angeles Christian Health Centers.

Also, more than 2,000 pairs of new shoes donated by Etnies will be distributed. Etnies staff will be on-hand to help with fitting the shoes.

“It’s just an honor and a privilege. I never thought that God would turn my life around,” said Kenneth, a volunteer who was formerly homeless and addicted to drugs.

“These kids are going to be with their families and it’s going to be probably two blocks long in line waiting to get these baskets,” he said.

“When they see these baskets and actually put one in their hands — if you see the smile on these kids’ faces… Their faces bright up and it’s just amazing.”
