The Beat Swap Meet in Chinatown’s Central Plaza is a celebration of vinyl music culture, where buyers and collectors sell and trade records in a variety of styles: blues, boogie, hip-hop, Latin, new wave and punk among them.

On an extremely hot day last September, while perusing the market, iPhone photographer George Sifuentes crossed paths with a young woman standing against a red door.

“The swap meet brought out some of L.A.’s vibrant youngsters,” Sifuentes said. “Among the many was Francisca (a.k.a. Kika Vi Lana), whose classic pin-up style turned heads all day.”
