Authorities on Friday were searching for a 20-year-old man wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a Coastal Carolina University student in the parking lot of the South Carolina school’s residence complex.
Marquis Spencer McDonald, 20, was named as the suspect in Tuesday’s shooting that left Anthony Darnell Liddell, 19, dead, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
Liddell, a sophomore from Bennettsville, S.C., was shot once in the chest, the county coroner said.
McDonald may be driving a 1997 white Lincoln Town Car with a South Carolina license plate, and authorities believe that Liddell and McDonald knew each other, police said.
Coastal Carolina University, located in Conway, about 10 miles northwest of Myrtle Beach, has an enrollment of more than 9,000 students. The college held a candlelight vigil on campus Thursday evening in Liddell’s honor.
