Woman, 2 children shot dead, third wounded in Denver

Two young children and a woman were shot and killed and another child was found critically injured inside a northeast Denver home Wednesday morning, authorities said.

When police arrived at the home, they found three bodies, Denver police spokesman Matt Murray said. The dead children were younger than 10, he said.

Murray, who wouldn’t confirm whether the dead woman was the children’s mother, said a third child was hospitalized and is in “critical condition after surgery.”

Asked if they were investigating the shootings as either a domestic-violence incident or a murder-suicide, police declined to comment, citing the ongoing investigation.

No arrests have been made, Murray said, but he added that there’s no indication the public is in danger.

“We don’t believe there’s a shooter on the loose in Denver,” he said.

Neighbor Debbie Martinez told the Associated Press that two adults and three children moved into the remodeled home in an industrial part of Denver about half a year ago.

“They seem like outgoing people,” Martinez said. “They didn’t bother anybody.”

In a short video posted on the department’s Twitter account Wednesday, Denver Police Chief Robert White offered his condolences: “I would ask that we all keep those involved ... those family members that are going to be facing this horrible tragedy, in our thoughts.”
