Letters: Ukraine not worth another war
Re “Standing up to Russia,” Editorial, April 15
Alarmed by 20 years of provocative NATO expansion and recent U.S. and European Union meddling in the separatist demonstrations in Kiev, the Russians are reasserting themselves around their borders and probably will not be stopped short of war.
This is emphatically not about Russian President Vladimir Putin or any individual. The Russian interests in that part of the world are legitimate and understandable, and wise U.S. policymakers will find a way to keep the peace through compromise and accommodation.
American voters are in no mood to risk the safety of the U.S. homeland and possibly trillions of dollars in a war over Ukraine, a country that has shown little ability to govern itself or to escape the legacy of hundreds of years of history shared with Russia.
