Letters: Can the GOP get the new reality?

Re “ Reality crashes this party,” column, Nov. 10

Sandy Banks’ analysis of what went wrong on the Republican side with the election was as logical, concise and right-on as any I have seen or heard from the professional pundits.

America is changing — as is the world — and people share the same basic DNA, whatever their skin color or country of origin. If the Republicans continue to deny the unalterable changing demographics of our crowded planet, their political future is very much in doubt.

Great job on this column. The loss by the Republicans was also caused by the last four years of obstruction by commentators Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Fox News and their expression of hate, fear and lies.

The New America that political operative Dick Morris and Bill O’Reilly are not a part of is because the radical right wingers cannot see beyond the “haves” (themselves) they want to enhance at the expense of this county’s middle class.

Question for your columnist: Why didn’t the Obama coalition show up to vote in the 2010 midterm elections?

Does the Obama coalition have a coherent political philosophy they are passionate about, or at least interested in enough to come out and vote for, or do they only show when the charismatic young black man who has captured their hearts and imagination is on the ballot?
