Letters: Mustang still boss to him

Re “Does retro have a future?,” Business, Feb. 23

To anyone with even a passing interest in automobile design, some cars are impossible not to admire.

The original Ford Mustang was one of those, of course, and the “new” Ford Mustang is also, as your reviewer Brian Thevenot notes.

Pondering how Ford might redesign the Mustang for its 50th anniversary, Thevenot asks whether retro has a future. I take exception with the idea that the current Mustang is a “retro” design.

To my eye, today’s Mustang exudes Mustang DNA while looking thoroughly contemporary. In this era of cars that are virtually indistinguishable from one another, that is a feat for which Ford should be roundly applauded.

The Mustang is as widely revered as any American car. So I’ll chime in with Thevenot: Ford, don’t get any big ideas.

Don’t screw it up.
