Letters: Nobel laureate’s L.A. roots
Re “Nobelist created economic models,” Obituary, Oct. 22
Your recent obituary on Lawrence Klein, who won the Nobel Price in economics in 1980 for developing computer-based models that assist policymakers in forecasting economic fluctuations, failed to mention that he was a graduate of Los Angeles City College.
As a one-time administrator at the college, about 10 years ago, I invited Klein to attend an alumni event to honor him for his achievements. He accepted and was very gracious, I remember, in recalling how the college’s mathematics department and classes helped set him on his future road to success.
