Readers React: What Eric Garcetti can learn from -- yes -- Donald Trump

Share

To the editor: I couldn’t agree more with Steve Lopez’s thoughts on Mayor Eric Garcetti’s reluctance to take a stand on key issues. (“Mayor Garcetti has served up big, heaping plates of waffle,” July 29)

In the same issue as Lopez’s column, Steven P. Erie, Patt Morrison’s interviewee on the subject of our nonexistent infrastructure policies, states, “Leader-ship starts with mayors, with governors and presidents.” Love Donald Trump or hate him, I suspect the fact that he is honest about his (loathsome) positions explains his traction in Republican presidential polls.

We, the people, are craving leaders with vision and backbone. Therefore, I hereby nominate Steve Lopez for mayor. I’m serious.

To the editor: Regarding Lopez’s column, was Garcetti’s unwillingness to confront uncomfortable situations not more evident than when he tried to sneak out of his house through a rear gate rather than face protesters supporting the Black Lives Matter movement?
