Readers React: Goodbye to John Boehner

Share

To the editor: Dear Honorable John Boehner: Your long service in Washington is coming to an end and your efforts are recognized by many. (“Boehner resigns: Embattled old-school speaker calls off fight, ‘’ Sept. 26)

You have blamed the difficulty getting anything done in Washington on the “conservative wing” of the Republican Party.

Consider this: Perhaps it is you and others like you who are the problem. You and others like you in Washington don’t get it: You work for us.

The American people do not see a difference between Democrats and Republicans. The political inbreeding is out of control.

We are taking back our country from you and others like you; we want to get back to the basic principles this country was founded on and that made it the greatest nation on earth.

Stop undermining the Republican “conservative wing,” which is speaking for the American people; it accomplishes nothing good.

To the editor: Boehner, as speaker, presided over the most ineffective House of Representatives in the modern era. It’s only fitting that he quit.

I think the article was pretty gracious in light of some of the things that Boehner allowed to happen — and actually encouraged — under his watch.

To the editor: Boehner’s resignation as speaker of the House after Pope Francis addressed Congress may be just a coincidence; however, many of us think the holiness of the pope may have influenced his decision.

Boehner did not have control over the extremists in the House; these extremists were put in by the tea party voters.

Many of the tea party members don’t believe in compromise on issues that would move the country forward; they are ideologues destroying the Republican Party.
