Readers React: Telling the terrorists where to strike

To the editor: This article quotes an expert on terrorism as saying that “terrorists are constantly looking for ways of not only hitting people at large symbolic targets and events, but also during everyday routine activities as well, where civilians are most vulnerable and least able to escape.” (“A freeway terror attack is the ‘nightmare we worry about,’ law enforcers say,” Dec. 21)

The article, however, assures us that “officials have discussed and tried to address … a response plan” for these most vulnerable “sitting duck” mass gatherings of American humanity.

Surprisingly, you also provide a very readable, prominently displayed box that includes the specific locations of mass gatherings where terrorist attempts have been unsuccessful the first time.

Is this article an example of a journalistic need-to-know or an unintended invitation for another try?
