Readers React: L.A. councilmen push for ordinance to crack down on wage theft

To the editor: It appears that in this country, based on the principle that all are equal, the working poor are treated as less equal. As one article states, in L.A. County the “vast majority” of low-wage workers have experienced wage theft. And even if caught, the more powerful thieves seldom have to surrender their ill-gotten gains. And when low-wage workers try to exercise their law-given right to organize, they face dismissal and harassment. Kudos to Councilmen Gil Cedillo and Paul Koretz, and to the workers striving to have us live up to the values our country was declared to be based on. (“Taking aim at wage theft,” June 25)
