Opinion: Battling over California beach developments

Share

To the editor: This reminds me of “mission creep,” as it is called in the military.( “A pitched battle brews over Banning Ranch,” Aug. 27, and “Judge rejects panel’s policy on limiting sea wall repairs, “ Aug. 27)

I see this coming with the Banning Ranch real estate plan. For the time being, the developers want only a small piece, but give them time — and they never rest until they have all they want.

I see it throughout the Orange County, they get everything.

The Banning plan will destroy a big part of our beautiful and remaining open coastal area and future generations will be at a loss to understand how all this beautiful nature disappeared.

To the editor: Over time, Capistrano Shores has morphed into more than a mobile home park.

Many of the homes have added a second story, obstructing views from the bluffs above Pacific Coast Highway.

Public access to the ocean is blocked with gates and locks.

Why hasn’t the Coastal Commission addressed these issues of blocking public access and views?

I wrote a letter in 2014 to the commission and was told it is not illegal.

I believe the city has played a part in allowing these improvements to the homes by issuing permits.

Allowing a stone wall or repair is just a small part of the issue where the public is concerned.
