Opinion: California’s vaccine law is important, but we also need verification that parents are complying
To the editor: As your story says, “California is now one of three states that forbid parents from opting out of vaccines for their children because of religious or personal beliefs.”
Schools should implement more effective procedures in checking children’s immunization status such as asking for immunization records yearly or every other year to keep count of children coming from different states and countries.

It’s believed that some parents decide to not vaccinate their children due to believing that they can be protected by “herd immunity.”
Vaccinating our children is about staying healthy, not jeopardizing our children’s lives.
