Romney will campaign to finish line
FAIRFAX, Va. — As Mitt Romney’s crowds greet the candidate at his final events of the 2012 election, they have a rally cry to counter Obama supporters’ chant of “four more years”: “One! More! Day!”
Romney’s campaign announced Monday that there really will be one more day. Instead of wrapping up his campaign at a midnight rally in New Hampshire, Romney will make two more stops in Ohio and Pennsylvania on election day in what his campaign described as an effort to keep working until the polls close.
The last-minute stops are not unusual in a tight race. Then-Sen. Barack Obama went to Indiana, traditionally Republican territory, on election day in 2008, and pulled off a victory. His opponent, Republican nominee John McCain, made get-out-the-vote stops at campaign headquarters in Colorado and New Mexico, but didn’t win either.
Romney’s visit to Pennsylvania is perhaps most surprising. He has spent far less time there than in other swing states. His last visit was to a military college on Nov. 28. But his advisors insist polls have tightened, particularly in the collar counties around Pennsylvania where he campaigned Sunday.
Romney will vote near his home in Belmont, Mass., on Tuesday. And he will return to Boston to await election returns.
