The cutoff in funding for much of the government started Tuesday with the GOP move to kill or delay Obamacare. On Tuesday night, the House GOP made a bid to reopen selected parts of government. That effort failed, with Democrats saying they wouldn’t pick winners and losers among federal services.

President Obama has put off part of his trip to Asia next week, a sign that the White House foresees the shutdown lingering.
