Bicyclist found unconscious on sidewalk dies at hospital, police say

A 75-year-old male bicyclist who was found unconscious on a Huntington Beach sidewalk Saturday died after being taken to a hospital, authorities said.

The Huntington Beach Police Department responded a report of a fallen bicyclist at 10:39 a.m. in the 8300 block of Talbert Avenue, police said. He appeared to have a serious head injury and was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he died later that day, police said.

The man, who was wearing a helmet, was found near a men’s black Cannondale road bike. The bicyclist was from Huntington Beach, according to a news release.

According to the news release, the bicyclist apparently was riding westbound on Talbert Avenue when he lost control of the bicycle and fell. The road was free of hazards and no other vehicles are believed to be involved in the incident, police investigators said.
