A 75-year-old man died Wednesday in Huntington Beach after he crashed his car in the area of Edinger Avenue and Goldenwest Street, police said.

Police officers responded to the area at 12:07 p.m. after receiving a report of a single-vehicle traffic collision, the Huntington Beach Police Department said in a news release.

Responding officers discovered a silver 2002 Honda Accord and the lone occupant, a 75-year-old man from Milpitas, Calif., still in the driver’s seat.

Based on the preliminary investigation, police believe the man was driving east on Edinger Avenue approaching Goldenwest Street, where he struck the curb and a traffic signal pole.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, said Huntington Beach Police Department Public Information Officer Jennifer Marlatt.

During the investigation, police shut down the intersection.

The man’s identity will not be released until next of kin is notified, police said.

The investigation is ongoing, and it is not known if alcohol or drugs were a factor at this time, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Huntington Beach Police Accident Investigator Robert Barr at 714-536-5666 or Accident Investigator Josh Page at 714-536-5670.
