As officials were on the lookout for a swimmer reported missing Friday night, Orange County sheriff’s deputies found a man’s body in the water Monday night in Huntington Beach.

Huntington Beach police Officer Jennifer Marlatt said Tuesday that she could not confirm whether the man was the missing person.

Deputies found the body at about 9:15 p.m. Monday near the water entrance of Huntington Harbour near the Anaheim Bay bridge. Coroner’s officials said the body had no signs of physical trauma.

At about 9:30 p.m. Friday, a witness reported seeing a swimmer “twirling” near the shoreline, Huntington Beach police Lt. Kent Ferrin said.

The witness lost sight of the person between lifeguard towers 4 and 6 and didn’t see him get out of the water.

Crews searched through the night for the man, who was said to be wearing a tank top and shorts, and suspended the search by 3 a.m. Saturday, police said.

Though police initially said search efforts would resume Saturday and include a police helicopter, they later said it would be treated as a case of “be on the lookout.”

Early Saturday, officials located a surfer who had suffered a heart attack while in the water. Police initially said the man died but later said he was resuscitated and that they didn’t know his condition.

The surfer was not believed to be the missing person, according to police.
