Fountain Valley police arrested a teenage driver suspected of causing a vehicle to crash into another on Tuesday, resulting in injuries to both the other drivers.

The 17-year-old Santa Ana boy, who police said was unlicensed, was arrested on suspicion of hit and run and was later released to his parents, police said.

Police responded to the intersection of Harbor Boulevard and Heil Avenue in Fountain Valley at about 10:15 a.m. after receiving a report of a crash involving an overturned vehicle. An Acura RSX had rolled over with one person inside, and another person was trapped in an upright Honda Pilot, police said.

The Fountain Valley Fire Department and the Orange County Fire Authority cut open the Honda to free the driver. The drivers of both vehicles were taken to hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Minutes before the collision, investigators said, a Jeep Liberty driven by the teen was involved in a crash with another vehicle around Euclid Street and Edinger Avenue. According to police, the teen drove away, and the driver of the other vehicle followed him to a commercial complex at Harbor Boulevard and Lilac Avenue.

The Jeep headed south on Harbor and rear-ended the Acura, causing it to cross into the northbound lanes and crash head-on into the Honda, police said. The teen fled, authorities said.

Fountain Valley and Santa Ana police found the teen at his home at about 1 p.m. and he was arrested, police said.

Drugs and alcohol are not suspected as factors in the case, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Fountain Valley police at (714) 593-4485.
