Clippers point guard Patrick Beverley had surgery on his right knee Wednesday in Los Angeles, and coach Doc Rivers told The Times during his team’ shoot-around Wednesday morning that Beverley “would be out for a while.”

“My guess is he’s definitely out for six weeks,” Rivers said. “It is what it is. You can’t make this up.”

Beverley had missed five games with right knee soreness, but returned to play Monday night against the Knicks in New York.

He played 22 minutes, 14 seconds and scored nine points on three-for-eight shooting.

Beverley also had six rebounds and two assists.

After the Clippers lost their ninth consecutive game to the Knicks, Beverley chastised his teammates for their poor play.

But as they prepared to take on the Hawks on Wednesday night in Atlanta, the Clippers got the bad news that Beverley had returned to L.A.

The Clippers still are without small forward Danilo Gallinari (strained left glute) and point guard Milos Teodosic (plantar fascia injury to left foot).
