The Dodgers played a game Thursday, which means a member of the team experienced some sort of physical calamity. The latest injury scare involves outfielder Yasiel Puig, who felt tightness in his right hamstring when trying to leg out a hit in the seventh inning after coming in as a defensive replacement in the sixth.

Manager Dave Roberts removed Puig as a precaution after the Dodgers took the field on defense. He was unsure the severity of the injury immediately after a 6-3 victory over the Washington Nationals.

“History says that it’s his left hamstring that gives him problems,” Roberts said. “But this one was the right.”

Puig dealt with injuries to both hamstrings in 2015, when he was limited to 79 games. He has already spent one stint on the disabled list this season because of a hamstring issue.

An injury to Puig could complicate the front office’s plans for the Aug. 1 trade deadline. Puig has been discussed with other clubs, according to people familiar with the situation, although the Dodgers probably would need to acquire another outfielder before they consider moving Puig.

Short bench

Corey Seager was unavailable for the third consecutive game because of a stomach virus. Yasmani Grandal also has caught the bug, Roberts said.

“I think Zach Walters brought it from Oklahoma City, and gave it to some of the guys,” Roberts said.

The Dodgers optioned Walters, a utility man, and shortstop Charlie Culberson back to triple-A before Thursday’s game. The team needed to clear space on the roster for spot starter Julio Urias and reliever Grant Dayton.

Dayton, 28, has struck out 15.9 batters per nine innings in stints at double-A Tulsa and Oklahoma City.

“He’s a high spin-rate guy,” Roberts said. “He’s got a good fastball, good fastball life.”

The roster moves probably will continue Friday. Urias is expected to head back to the minors and pitch out of the Oklahoma City bullpen.
