Dodgers’ losing streak at season-high six after 9-0 loss to Mets

The Dodgers’ stunning freefall continued Friday night, their struggling offense no match for knuckleballer R.A. Dickey in a 9-0 drubbing by the Mets.

The Dodgers’ losing streak has now hit a season-high six games. They’ve lost 10 of their last 11, and although the Giants also lost so the Dodgers remained one game back in the National League West, second place is not feeling too secure.

The third-place Diamondbacks won and are now only three games back of the Dodgers.

If the suddenly offensive impotent Dodgers being sent out against Dickey, probably the NL’s hottest pitcher, seemed like a cruel mismatch, it was.

Dickey took his record to 12-1 in holding the Dodgers to only three hits in his eight innings. He walked one and struck out 10. The Dodgers had a lot of feeble-looking at-bats.

The Mets scored five runs off right-hander Aaron Harang (5-5) in his 5 2/3 innings. Harang, who gave up a pair of runs in the second inning and three more in the fifth, surrendered seven hits and four walks while striking out three.

And for six innings, Harang also had the only hit off Dickey.

Second baseman Daniel Murphy led the 14-hit attack for the Mets, driving in five runs with a two-run double off Harang in the fifth and a three-run homer off rookie Shawn Tolleson in the seventh.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers fell to 43-35 on the season, the first time they’ve been only eight games over .500 since April 27.

And they are very much going the wrong way with the offense again. They’ve now been held without a run in their last 14 innings and have scored in only one of their last 48 innings.
