Zack Greinke is schedule to pitch on Wednesday

PHOENIX -- Zack Greinke is scheduled to pitch in a game on Wednesday, according to Manager Don Mattingly.

Greinke emerged from his Sunday bullpen session without any discomfort in his previously sore elbow.

On Wednesday, Greinke could pitch in a game against the Kansas City Royals in Surprise or, more likely, in a minor league game on the Dodgers’ spring-training complex. The Dodgers will set a pitch count of 45 for him.

After that, Greinke could pitch twice more during the exhibition season: on March 25 against the Royals in Surprise and March 30 against the Angels in Anaheim.

That means the earliest Greinke could make a regular-season start would be on April 5 for a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Dodger Stadium. But it’s uncertain if Greinke can build up sufficient arm strength by then. He has pitched only five innings this spring.

Meanwhile, Chad Billingsley was classified as “doubtful” by Mattingly to make his scheduled start on Tuesday. Billingsley will most likely pitch next on Saturday.

Josh Beckett was scratched from his start on Monday against the Arizona Diamondbacks, but will throw in a simulated game on the minor-league side of the Dodgers’ complex.
