Ducks acquire goalie Jonathan Bernier from Maple Leafs

The Ducks filled a major off-season need Friday when they acquired goalie Jonathan Bernier from the Toronto Maple Leafs for a conditional draft pick.
The draft pick is in 2017, according to Sportsnet.
Bernier becomes the backup to John Gibson, who was given the No. 1 role when the Ducks traded Frederik Andersen to Toronto last month. Ducks General Manager Bob Murray had said he needed a backup that could play 20 to 25 games because Gibson, who turns 23 next week, wasn’t yet ready for a full NHL workload, and Bernier fills that role.
The former Kings goalie had a career-high tying three shutouts and a 2.88 goals-against average in 38 games with the Maple Leafs last season. Bernier, 27, set career highs as a starter with 26 wins, a 2.68 goals-against average and .923 save percentage with Toronto in 2013-14.
The Ducks will pay Bernier $2.1 million next season, the final season of his contract, because he already received a $2 million signing bonus with Toronto.
