The Ducks on Thursday claimed winger Emerson Etem on waivers, bringing the Long Beach native back to where he began his NHL career.

Etem, 24, was drafted 29th overall by the Ducks in 2010. He was prized for his speed, but he couldn’t score enough to keep a spot in the lineup. They traded him to the New York Rangers for Carl Hagelin in June of 2015.

Etem spent last season with the Rangers and Vancouver and had seven goals and 22 points in 39 games.

A Ducks spokesman said he was not certain when Etem will rejoin the team. The Ducks open the 2016-17 season Thursday night at Dallas against the Stars.
