Baseball: Cleveland wins for the 18th time in 19 games

All the Cleveland High baseball team keeps doing is winning.

The Cavaliers improved to 18-1 overall and 2-0 in the West Valley League with a 7-2 victory over Granada Hills on Thursday, giving them a sweep of the Highlanders.

Jack Fox threw shutout ball for 4 1/3 innings. Victor Gonzalez contributed two hits. The Cavaliers keep getting strong pitching and are playing great defense. Their only loss was to Sherman Oaks Notre Dame.

Chatsworth 9, Birmingham 1: Josh Medina had three hits in Chatsworth’s 9-1 win over Birmingham. Ryan Roche got the victory. Max Mehlbaum had three RBIs. Chatsworth is 18-3.

Vista Murrieta 3, Temecula Valley 0: Chance Hroch struck out six in 6 1/3 innings and Jake Moberg picked up the save.

Murrieta Valley 5, Great Oak 4: Gage Sanchez had two RBIs in the win.

Agoura 13, Calabasas 6: Tommy Tabak and Hayden Luff each had two hits and three RBIs for the Chargers. Ben Baird also had three RBIs.

Etiwanda 4, Chino Hills 0: Tyler Freeman went three for three and Mike Berg threw the complete-game shutout.

Kennedy 8, Sylmar 4: The hot-hitting Jerry Aguilar had four RBIs to lead the Golden Cougars in a sweep of Sylmar in a Valley Mission League game.

Chaminade 5, St. Francis 3: The Eagles completed a three-game sweep of St. Francis and took over first place in the Mission League. Reece Weinberg threw five shutout innings and Anthony Acosta had two hits.
