Baseball: Huntington Beach completes 4-0 week with win over Edison

Make no mistake about it, the Huntington Beach Oilers are rolling in baseball.

They completed a 4-0 week with a 3-1 win over Edison on Saturday in a Sunset League game, knocking off one of the best pitchers in the league in Kaz Akamatsu.

Nate Madole allowed one run in 4 1/3 innings and Mitchell Kovary threw 2 2/3 innings of shutout relief. Hagen Danner had two hits. Huntington Beach is 14-5 and 4-1 in league and showing off lots of pitching depth.

Huntington Beach will unveil its new stadium on Friday against Marina after switching Saturday’s game to Edison.

Westlake 3, Mira Costa 1: Bo Jelinek got his fifth save and Grant Bunker and Tyler Flores each had two hits. It was only Mira Costa’s second defeat.

Cleveland 2, Banning 1: Greg Conklin and Sam Villa combined on a no-hitter, helping Cleveland improve to 19-1. Chris Gonzalez had a double and RBI.

JSerra 7-4, Los Alamitos 0-9: The Lions got a split in a doubleheader. In the first game, four pitchers combined a three-hit shutout. Royce Lewis, Lyle Lin, Chase Strumpf and Micah Pries each had two hits. In the second game, junior Michael Townsend threw a complete game and had two hits and three RBIs for Los Alamitos.

Vista Murrieta 6, Corona Santiago 3: Santiago committed six errors in the defeat. Brice Turang had two hits for Santiago.

Loyola 4, Foothill 1: Riley Livingston contributed three hits and Daniel Caruso drove in two runs. Six Cub pitchers gave up four hits. Loyola has a Mission League showdown with Chaminade next week.

Sun Valley Poly 4, Sierra Canyon 2: John Lopez had the game-winning RBI. Tony Ramirez picked up the win.
