Boys’ basketball: LiAngelo Ball scores 40 points to rally Chino Hills

Chino Hills improved to 8-0 and won its 43rd consecutive game by overcoming an eight-point fourth-quarter deficit to defeat Las Vegas Clark, 91-87, in a first-round game of the Tarkanian Classic on Friday.

The Huskies were able to overcome losing LaMelo Ball and Onyeka Okongwu to five fouls. LiAngelo Ball finished with 40 points. The Huskies went on a 14-0 run after falling behind.

They will play Bishop O’Dowd on Saturday.

Santa Ana Mater Dei defeated Desert Pines, 84-61. Spencer Freedman scored 26 points and had nine assists.

Eastvale Roosevelt defeated Valor Christian, 66-55. Jemarl Baker scored 24 points. Crossroads is 8-0 after a 42-29 win over Cathedral Catholic. Shareef O’Neal had 15 points.

Harvard-Westlake defeated Prestonwood Christian, 69-60. Cassius Stanley scored 25 points and Johnny Juzang had 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Chaminade defeated Mira Costa, 66-50. Sebastian Lopez had 14 points.
Highland defeated Quartz Hill, 88-47, in a Golden League game. Deshay Gipson scored 30 points.

Windward defeated Trabuco Hills, 57-54. Jules Bernard finished with 24 points and 20 rebounds. Windward is 9-2.

Corona Centennial advanced to the Inland Empire Classic final with an 82-61 win over Redlands East Valley. Gio Nelson ahd 23 points and Jalen Hill scored 17 points. Etiwanda defeated Colony, 49-46, in the other semifinal. Kester Edwards scored 21 points. Etiwanda and Centennial will meet on Saturday at Colony.

Adam Hess scored 35 points in Westlake’s 88-74 win over Buena.

Damien advanced to the championship game of the La Canada tournament with an 83-69 win over St. Francis. Cameron Shelton had 25 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists. Justin Hemsley added 22 points and 16 rebounds. Damien will play Bonita at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Sonora handed Capistrano Valley its first defeat, 61-56, and will play La Mirada in the championship game of the North Orange County tournament. La Mirada defeated St. John Bosco, 71-62. JJ Watson had 28 points for St. John Bosco. Shemar Morrow had 17 points.

Dominguez defeated Washington, 62-57.

In double overtime, Dorsey defeated Crenshaw, 75-73. It was tied, 55-55, after regulation and 65-65 after the first overtime. Brandon Crawford scored 26 points for the Dons. Chris Kendrick had 27 points for Crenshaw.

Oaks Christian defeated Santa Clarita Christian, 74-47. Talin Lewis had 22 points. Los Alamitos defeated Brea, 62-30. Jacob Eyman had 15 points and 15 rebounds.
