Football: Let’s play two could be a theme in 2013

As if coaches don’t have enough to worry about and prepare for, one of the most intriguing developments of the 2013 season could be top teams having to play the same opponent twice this season.

Most experts are predicting Chaminade and Gardena Serra won’t be playing each other just on Oct. 18 at Serra. They’re the favorites to reach the Western Division title game.

In the Valley Mission League, Sylmar and San Fernando are scheduled to meet on Oct. 4 at Sylmar. They’re the favorites to play in the City Section Division II final.

There are lots of teams in the Trinity League who could end up facing each other in the Pac-5 playoffs.

Lots of times, the team that won the first meeting loses the second, because it’s very hard to sweep a good team, so all that wil come into play in the coming months.

The Sylmar-San Fernando rivalry has a chance to be quite interesting. Sylmar sophomore quarterback Clarence Williams has grown to 6 feet 2. He’ll be competing against San Fernando quarterback Cristian Solano, one of the best in the City Section.

Sylmar opens its season on Friday against Roosevelt. Sylmar won’t have talented sophomore running back Marcus Gandy, a transfer from Granada Hills Kennedy, for the opening month of the season. He becomes eligible the week of the San Fernando game.
