Another day, another award for Michael Norman, the recent Vista Murrieta graduate headed to USC.
For the second consecutive year, Norman has been named the Gatorade national track and field athlete of the year.
Norman, who won the state 200 and 400 and was on two winning relay teams, is set to run in the 400 beginning Friday at the Olympic Trials in Oregon. Then next week, he’ll participate in the 200.
He’s the first track and field back to back winner of the Gatorade award. He was surprised on Tuesday with the presentation at school.
“It was a pretty big surprise,” he said.
Norman said he has never felt better and can’t wait to see how fast he’ll be able to run at the Olympic Trials.
“I feel a lot faster than I did a month ago,” he said. “I’m just going to go out there and run in both events. We planned the whole season out just for this.”
