Volleyball: Coach Michael Boehle ends practice at Loyola by making length-of-the-court shot
Loyola volleyball tradition is coach needs to make shot
They’ve got a strange tradition at Loyola High School.
Once the Cubs make the volleyball playoffs, practice doesn’t end until Coach Michael Boehle sends a volleyball flying on the basketball court from one end to the other and it goes through the net.
Players were clapping, dancing and pleading for Boehle to finally make the shot on Wednesday afternoon. It has taken has long as 45 minutes through the years for him to finally make one.
It took about 10 minutes and more than 20 shots before the ball he threw right-handed from one basket to the other finally banked off the backboard and through the net.
Boehle used to be a shortstop in high school, so he has the arm to throw all day. But his players seemed especially pleased they could finally go home. Loyola, seeded No. 2 in the Southern Section Division 1 playoffs, plays at Edison on Thursday.
For highlights of the throw, see above video.
