Right-hander Adam Wainwright will be activated from the disabled list Wednesday and will be available for one inning, the St. Louis Cardinals announced.

The three-time All-Star injured his left Achilles’ tendon April 25 and was initially expected to have a recovery window of nine to 12 months.

The Cardinals also said that rookie left fielder Stephen Piscotty was discharged from a Pittsburgh hospital, where he was held for observation after suffering a head contusion in a collision with center fielder Peter Bourjos on Monday night.

Outfielder Michael Brantley of the Cleveland Indians could sit out the remainder of the season because of an injured right shoulder.

Manager Terry Francona said the team will wait for results from tests before deciding on the next step for Brantley, who injured the shoulder last week while trying to make a diving catch in Minnesota.

Brantley is batting .310 with 15 home runs and 84 runs batted in. He finished third in the voting for American League most valuable player last season.
