Devon Sandoval scored twice, Javier Morales converted a penalty kick and Real Salt Lake defeated the Galaxy, 3-0, Saturday night.

Sandoval opened the scoring in the third minute with a left-footed shot from the left side of the six-yard box to inside the far post, finishing Aaron Maund’s headed pass. Sandoval made it 3-0 in the 53rd with a header off Juan Manuel Martinez’s cross.

Morales converted from the spot in the 28th minute for RSL (10-11-8), which moved to within three points of sixth-place Portland in Major League Soccer’s Western Conference.

The Galaxy (13-9-8) remained tied with FC Dallas for second place in the West, a point behind Vancouver.
