Update: The Galaxy announced Friday that it will play Real Madrid in a friendly match at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on the evening of July 16. Before that, however, the Galaxy has one dozen MLS games to sort out whether it will be a legitimate contender for the league championship this season or just an also-ran. Saturday’s game between the two MLS conference leaders was being hyped as a clash of stars, with Juan Pablo Angel, David Beckham and Landon Donovan in the Los Angeles corner and Thierry Henry, Rafael Marquez and Dwayne DeRosario flying New York’s colors. The Red Bulls have won their last three games, each by a shutout. The Galaxy is coming off a 2-1 loss at FC Dallas in a storm-interrupted game. The Red Bulls, who have not allowed a goal in 292 consecutive minutes, have announced that they will be in London in late July playing in the annual preseason Emirates Cup tournament with host Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and Boca Juniors of Argentina.
